Did you know...
that calves are not born specifically
for veal production?

Calves are born as part of the dairy industry. Dairy cows must give birth to a calf in order to produce milk. Only around 30% of the calves are needed to maintain the dairy herd. The remaining calves are taken to a selection centre, where they are inspected and sorted.

Want to know why the Netherlands is a leading country in veal farming and what happens to the calves after they leave the selection centre? Take a look at our infographic.

Our veal

Our veal comes from calves that are under eight months old. These calves are fed a balanced mix of milk and roughage. The meat is very lean and tender, with a fine texture and a delicate flavour.

Our beef

Our beef comes from female cattle (heifers) aged 16 to 20 months, fed a combination of roughage and concentrate feed. This meat is lightly marbled, has a full, rich flavor, and a deep red color. Thanks to the marbling, it remains tender and juicy.
